5 Good deeds that you can do to help from home during quarantine period

With an ongoing global crisis and Holy Week at hand, we just can’t help but feel like we need to do more to assist those who are working on the frontlines and those who are trying to make ends meet to survive. If you feel the same way, we’ve come up with 5 simple ways to help others without breaking the COVID-19 community quarantine guidelines. With just our mobile phone and a bit of extra cash in our e-wallets (like PayMaya, for example), we can express little acts of kindness!

1.Send money to those who need it

Whether helping out a relative, a friend, or the family of a kasambahay, we can transfer funds quickly and easily to any PayMaya account, Smart Padala agents, Palawan Express, or any bank accounts using the PayMaya app. In these trying times, helping them with funds for food and other supplies can really mean a lot.

How to do it:

  • Upgrade your PayMaya account first. This can be approved within 24 hours as long as you have the required documents. A guide can be found in this link.
  • Send to another PayMaya account via the “Send Money” function on the app.
  • Send to any bank under Instapay via the “Bank Transfer” function on the app.
  • Send to Smart Padala agents/Palawan Express via the “Send Money” function, but make sure to double check if the Smart Padala agent is open.

2. Help pay the bills at home

Just like how Mulan brought honor to her family by going to the frontlines on behalf of her father, we can also stop our parents from going out during the quarantine period and pay the bills ourselves via mobile. Fortunately, it’s easy to pay a wide variety of billers on the PayMaya app. Meralco, Smart, and Manila Water included.

How to do it:

  • Select PayMaya app’s Pay Bills function and look for the biller.
  • Enter the account number, amount, and other necessary details and wait for the confirmation message.

3. Buy a hearty snack for a friend or colleague

There are people who are having a hard time to cope emotionally during this pandemic. It’s normal to go through mixed feelings since no one know what’s going to happen next. To comfort them during these times, we can surprise them with their favorite snack and pay ahead via mobile so they won’t need to worry about that, too! Just don’t forget to tip the delivery person as well if you can.

How to do it:

  • For food delivery services, you can use your PayMaya card number like a credit/debit card.
  • For restaurants like Domino’s Pizza, Goldilocks, Burger King, and Army Navy, you can use your PayMaya number.

4. Treat a delivery person to a meal

You might have some food delivered every now and then during the quarantine, so why not take the time to treat your hardworking riders to an extra meal or snack to keep their energy up? When you pay for food delivery using PayMaya, consider ordering another item for your rider to show them how much you appreciate what they do.

How to do it:

  • Angkas, for example, has launched a PayMaya QR code where you can donate directly for the benefit of their drivers.

5. Donate to organizations providing response and relief

We’ve published a list of organizations that are providing aid for communities and frontliners. Please do consider sharing financial help if you have money to spare!

How to do it:

  • For PayMaya, click “Pay Bills” and select the organization that you want to help.
  • Under Account Number, type “00000” and input the amount that you want to donate.

We can also help out at home by doing chores, fixing our room, and even sorting items that can be donated to families in poverty-stricken areas. A little act of kindness can already go a long way for other people.

Have a blessed Holy Week, everyone. Let’s remain hopeful for better days ahead. Stay safe and healthy!
