JC De Vera joins fitness enthusiasts in Under Armour’s Test of Will urban fitness challenge

Having a hectic schedule is no excuse to skip workout sessions. Even though non-invasive procedures that help us look well-sculpted and presentable can be found everywhere, nothing beats the feeling of having a strong body. This is what actor JC De Vera was able to prove last Saturday (June 23, 2018) as sportswear label Under Armour held their third edition of Test of Will – dubbed as Asia’s most advanced urban fitness challenge, that has been providing a platform for everyday athletes to showcase their fitness skills and test their willpower since 2016. The two-day event at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall was warmly received by over 300 fitness enthusiasts and those who want to see how long their body can take strenuous workouts.

Your Manila Millennial dropped by to see what all the hype was about. We personally wanted to join, but due to medical conditions, we’ll take a pass for now! In case you’re planning to join next year’s challenges like us, here’s an overview of what participants of this year’s event were tasked to do:

Over and Under

Farmer Walks

In a span of four minutes, participants need to perform the most number of reps that they can within the 60-second time limit for each exercise. The intense workout challenge consists of Over and Under (Hurdle), Deadball Squats, Kettlebell Farmer Walks, and Bear Crawls.

Bear Crawls

JC De Vera joined the afternoon session and showed off the product of all his hard work at the gym. When asked by media about his experience, he said: “Everyone is watching you. Time for you na ipakita sa lahat kung ano talaga ang kaya mong gawin. Kasi nga, normally, when you’re working out, hindi mo kaya gawin ‘to. Hindi mo kaya i-push yourself to the limit.”

Thumbs up! He survived the 4-minute challenge!

Other celebrity brand ambassadors who joined the challenge include Derek Ramsay, Robbie Domingo, Kylie Versoza, and Olympic weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.

Test of Will is one platform in which Under Armour achieves its vision of breaking barriers, uniting, inspiring, and even changing the world through sports. The fitness challenge is accessible to everyone with the will to train and a drive for the competition. Hence, in the Philippines and beyond, Test of Will has grown this year from #IWill to #WeWill to enforce its “Together, we are stronger” battle cry.

We’re expecting that the sport will grow within the next 12 months, so by next year, hopefully pumatak tayo ng 600-700 (participants),” shared Under Armour Brand Manager Lemuel Co when asked about what to expect for next year’s challenges. “During these kinds of events, anything na may physical activity, you can see that everyone’s enjoying, everyone’s engaged, and you can see a lot of friends, gym partners, gym rivals and they come together to test themselves.

All participants, regardless of age and gender, are determined enough to give it all that they’ve got!

Training for the annual event is easy, as long as you have the will to get through it!

You can start with as simple as doing simple push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups if you have a pull-up bar at home, you can do burpees, squats. Basically, these basic bodyweight exercises are all you need to prepare for something like this. ‘Yung mga Bear Crawl na ‘yan, squats, Farmers Walk, you can do that indoors or at home. You can do it while watching TV, you can do it when you just feel like doing it,” he said.

My tip to millennials: Try to explore lahat ng sports and eventually, mayroon kang magugustuhan. It might be doing yoga, doing parkour – ‘yan yung mga sikat ngayon. This (the event) is more like circuit training. Go out there and try it. If you like it, tuloy mo lang! Under Armour is always here if you want great compression gear, if you want apparels that will really help you with your training and workout. Under Armour is always there to support the most passionate athletes or even the Regular Joe who just wants to workout,” added Co.

Those who participated in the event took home an exclusive WILLbreaker t-shirt and instant bragging rights. On the other hand, those who were able to make it to the top of each category took home a limited-edition Test of Will 2018 medal and cash prize.

We can’t wait for the new challenges in 2019! Hoping that we can join next time. ♥
