It’s almost here! An all-new smartphone from HONOR with a flagship 200MP main camera, 50MP selfie camera, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, and the “World’s First Zero Flicker Display” is coming to the Philippines this August 15 and we’re honored to get our hands on it ahead of its official release date! As always, here’s a sneak peek at what to expect before the much-awaited price reveal. Meet the HONOR 90 5G:

INSIDE THE BOX

Inside the box, you’ll find the usual items – a clear jelly case, a charging brick, USB Type-C cable, SIM Ejector Tool, Quick Start Guide, and the premium-looking unit. What makes the contents special vs other smartphone brands is the inclusion of a USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter for people like me who still prefer using wired audio devices instead of Bluetooth ones.

Since it also comes with a clear jelly case, you can flex the glossy Diamond Silver colorway while keeping the unit scratch-free. The device already comes with a built-in screen protector, too!

CLOSER LOOK

The first thing that caught my attention is its elegant design, which somehow reminds me of glassware in castle core aesthetics. The back panel features a flashy finish that has small dots that shimmer as it catches the light at different angles. The device also boasts a slim and lightweight profile, making it comfortable to hold in one hand.

At the bottom left portion, you’ll find the HONOR branding, text about the AI Matrix Camera, and some regulatory information. I honestly feel like it would have been better with just the branding but I guess these are essential pieces of information for the brand. At the top left, you’ll find two circles housing the cameras and flash.

All the buttons – the polycarbonate volume rocker and lock/power button, are strategically placed on the right side of the device where our thumbs rest. While on the left side, you’ll just find a smooth surface.

Same goes for the top and bottom portion of the device: You’ll only find a smooth surface on top, while the rest sit at the bottom. The SIM tray, microphone, USB-C port, and speakers are all there below.

In front, there’s an almost bezel-less 6.7-inch Quad-curved Floating Screen with a 2664 x 1200 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. HONOR also takes pride in having less-to-almost-zero flicker in their display which is TÜV Rheinland-certified for its eye protection technology. The display also supports a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and delivers up to 1.07 billion colors for vivid visuals. Although the front camera rests at the top center of the screen, it’s almost unnoticeable when you play videos in full screen.

INITIAL CAMERA SAMPLES

HONOR 90 5G comes with a 200MP Main Camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor, a 12MP Ultra Wide and Macro Camera, a 2MP Depth Camera, and an LED flash. So far, it’s successful in delivering clear snapshots with true-to-life colors, especially when used outdoors. What I love most about the camera features, however, is the availability of 2x zoom in Portrait Mode, which I like using for product photography.

As for selfies, you’ll get to enjoy 50MP clear selfies and groufies!

HONOR 90 5G is also equipped with AI Vlog Assistant and AI-powered noise reduction for aspiring video content creators, by the way! If you’re a streamer, live seller, or just someone who wants to document their everyday life, this may be something worth watching out for.

As of this writing, it seems like a good balance between aesthetic and functionality, but we’ll be testing it out further in time for our full review on August 15. For now, here’s the full specs of the HONOR 90 5G:
