We’re only a few days away from 2019, yet another beauty innovation still managed to make its way to the Philippines shores! Considering ourselves lucky because this laser technology that we’re referring to is currently one of the most effective in terms of removing dark pigments, redness, scars, unwanted tattoo marks, and wrinkles on any part of our body. Sounds like a lot, right? As a Filipina with sensitive skin, these skin problems are no stranger to me so for the sake of updating Manila millennials about the latest in the Metro, we tried this treatment!
The first ever PICOPLUS system (PICO+4) was officially made available in the Philippines on December 11, 2018 at Luminisce Holistic Skin Innovation clinic in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Wellness expert Dra. Kaycee Reyes, the brain behind the clinic, introduced the treatment as a “versatile, non-invasive, and US FDA-approved laser that can treat various skin pigmentation problems”. It has been proven to significantly improve melasma, pigmentation, and pigmented lesions, tattoos, acne and acne scars, and other difficult skin cases that do not respond to similar technologies.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The PICOPLUS makes use of four wavelengths with dual pulse duration (pico- and nanosecond) for versatility. It has dual treatment modes to provide optimized treatment, along with handpieces – Pico Toning for radiant and rejuvenated skin, Focused Toning for energy treatments on scars and wrinkles, Gold Toning for redness and post acne erythema, Ruvy Touch for pigment reduction, and Tattoo Removal for clearance of colors.
The picosecond pulse does more than just protect the surrounding tissue from thermal damage. It also provides greater targeting and power to break up pigment, compared with a nanosecond laser alone. These pigments come out of your body through urine (fun fact)!
WHERE CAN IT BE USED?
The PICOLASER can target any area in your body. This laser system can be used on both old and young. However, the most common problems that it addresses are as follows:
- Acne: When left untreated or treated poorly, acne can leave scars or dark spots on the skin
- Pigmentation: This includes melasma and hypermigmentation. It forms brown to gray-brown patches usually on the face (cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead, chin, and upper lip) and other parts of the body that get exposed to the sun
- Rosacea: A chronic disease that makes the face swell, cause redness, make blood vessels prominent, and produce pimples.
- Scars: In all sizes and shapes, both old and new ones.
HOW DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
If you’ve done Hollywood Peel laser before, PICOPLUS feels very much like it. Imagine sparks that quickly touch your skin or sudden static after rubbing socks on your feet on a rug. No pain at all – take it from someone who has very low pain tolerance. Before they start the session, you will be asked to wear glasses to protect your eyes. After cleansing the area to be treated and warming up the machine, your PICOPLUS experience will start. After the zapping sensations, a really cold roller will be applied on the treated area. Very relaxing, in my opinion.
One session goes by really quick. It will only take you around 15 minutes for the process. Consultation, getting ready, and sipping tea or coffee are not yet included in the time estimate!
WHAT’S THE EFFECT AFTER ONE SESSION?
Honestly, I cannot say that there has been a lot of change since the pigments being targeted in my underarm are not super visible (no bragging intended). I did notice that it lightened a bit, but the lines on my underarm just make it appear a bit discolored. For skin conditions like mine, 3 sessions are recommended. Immediate effects are very evident when used on tattoo marks or very dark spots on the skin, though. Here are sample photos for your reference:
HOW MUCH IS IT?
PICOPLUS sessions can be availed at P35,000 per session but Luminisce currently offers it for half the original price. Getting PicoPlus on any part of your body will only cost you P17,500 but this discount will only be available until January 10, 2019.
WHERE CAN I GET IT?
This laser technology is only available at Luminisce in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig and Podium, Ortigas. You’ll need to book an appointment with the clinic since they have trained professionals who handle the said treatment.
