With ’90s and 2000s fashion making its way back into our wardrobes, it feels like the right time to revisit the sneakers that defined earlier eras. Just in time for the comeback of Nike Skylon 11, a running shoe from Nike’s archives that’s making a comeback nearly a decade after the last pairs disappeared from store shelves. With its familiar silhouette, Air Zoom details, and performance-inspired design, it might be worth putting back on our radar.
First introduced in the late 2000s, the Skylon 11 was designed as a lightweight training shoe for runners who wanted cushioning and responsiveness without extra bulk. It built a following among dedicated runners, and its performance-focused design remained part of Nike’s history even after the shoe was discontinued. Now, Nike Sportswear is giving it another run, but this time, it’s going beyond its original purpose on the track.

Retro sneakers aren’t exactly new, but there’s a reason older performance designs keep finding their way back into the spotlight. The details that once served a practical purpose, from layered uppers to sculpted midsoles, can also give an everyday outfit more character. Rather than completely changing the original design, Nike has kept the features that made the shoe recognizable while bringing it into its current Sportswear lineup.
David Mawdsley, Expert Footwear Designer at Nike Sportswear, shared how the brand approaches designs from its archives: “We’re always exploring new ideas,” says Mawdsley. “But those new ideas have to have a sense of familiarity, and that comes from our archives. We’re looking back to push forward.”
For longtime Nike fans, the return offers a chance to revisit a design from the brand’s running history. For those discovering it for the first time, the shoe brings a different option to the growing mix of retro-inspired sneakers.
What’s new with the Nike Skylon 11?

The updated Skylon 11 stays close to its original silhouette, with layered construction and Nike’s distinctive Air Zoom tooling. Its featured colorway pairs a breathable mesh upper in Volt with black and Metallic Silver details. The chunky Air Zoom midsole has deep grooves and exposed pods, giving the shoe its recognizable performance-inspired profile while combining cushioning and flexibility.
Not everyone wants a bright sneaker, of course. The Skylon 11 also comes in other colorways, including Black and Hyper Pink, with more options expected in future seasons. The design still has the look of a running shoe, but it doesn’t have to stay in an athletic setting. Pair it with shorts for a relaxed weekend outfit or wear it with casual trousers for a sportier take on everyday dressing. Its shape and color options leave room for different styling preferences.
The Skylon 11’s comeback also brings its original performance identity into a different context. The shoe was built around running, but Nike sees speed as more than just a physical measure. As Mawdsley puts it: “When you wear products that emulate speed, you feel like you’re living in action. Speed isn’t necessarily a physical pace. It can be a mental pace. It’s progressive. And in that way, progressive and speed go hand in hand.”
It’s a fitting idea for a shoe moving from Nike’s performance archives into everyday sportswear. Its running heritage remains part of the design, even as its role expands beyond training.
The Nike Skylon 11 is available through Nike.com and Nike Retail in Singapore. More colorways are expected to arrive in future seasons.
