SNEAK PEEK: realme 12 4G to launch in the Philippines this August

It seems that realme isn’t done with the 12 Series yet! Just when we thought that we’re ready to move on to the next number series, the smartphone brand recently announced that the realme 12 4G will also be available in the Philippines this August. While we’re expecting it to be the most affordable in the 12 series, it seems that it doesn’t fall short in the features department so far. With a Sony LYT600 OIS Portrait Camera, 2,000-Nit Ultra Bright AMOLED Display, and 67W SUPERVOOC Charge as its highlights, let’s see if this smartphone is worth of our money over the next few days!

Manila Millennial was able to get a review unit in advance and as usual, here’s a closer look before the official launch on August 10:

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The realme 12 4G looks very much like its siblings at first glance, except the color is more pastel-like. I got the Skyline Blue variant — which looks like a mix of sky blue and silver at certain angles, but I also saw a green version of the device on other tech blog posts. It still has the iconic realme 12 Series lining at the middle and same circular camera module, too.

On top, you’ll find a 3.5mm earphone jack and a secondary speaker, while the bottom portion houses a dual SIM card slot, USB-Type C port, and speaker grilles. The volume rocker and lock/unlock button are conveniently placed on the right side — easy to reach with your thumb if you’re right-handed, leaving the left side of the phone clean and uncluttered.

Flipping the phone to the front, you’ll see a 6.67-inch large E4 AMOLED panel that boasts up to 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. The 16MP selfie camera sits neatly at the top center portion, ready to capture your best angles and easily detect your face when you use Facial Recognition as an unlock option.

CAMERAS

You’ll get to enjoy a 16MP selfie camera in front while at the back, there’s a dual rear camera setup — a 50MP Sony LYT600 OIS Camera as the main sensor and a 2MP mono sensor.

Looking at realme’s promotional materials, it seems that the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) feature would be one of its highlights, along with the Master Camera Filters and Portrait Modes. After all, the brand is encouraging users to “be the Portrait Master”, so it makes sense to highlight Portrait camera options.

As of this posting, I have no complaints yet about the OIS department. My friends and I played around with the filters while joking around but there’s no (if not very minimal) blur involved.

There are 16 Portrait Filters, which are different from the normal Photo Filters, and many other camera options that we have yet to check out. Here are some samples for now:

OTHER FEATURES AND OFFICIAL RELEASE

Aside from the features mentioned above, what we know so far is that the realme 12 4G packs a 5,000mAh battery supported by 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging and that it runs on a Snapdragon 685 chipset, coupled with 8GB+128GB or 256GB of internal storage. My bet is that it will still be below Php 15k.

We’ll get more details once it’s officially launched in the Philippines on August 10 at 6:00 PM. Keep an eye out for the price reveal, too! In the meantime, realme is hosting a free smartphone photography session called Portrait Master Academy on Facebook.
