Our favorite foreign celebrities don’t always go to the Philippines for a quick tour so when they do, it’s a must for fans like me to get as close as possible and maybe snap a photo or two! In our case, we went the extra mile by making it a goal to get an autograph. I didn’t forget about my blogging duties, though, so I’m here to give you a summary of everything that went down at the Extraction 2 Fan Meet with Chris Hemsworth and Sam Hargrave at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall last Monday (June 5, 2023).

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, known for playing a superhero role and most recently as Tyler Rake in the movie Extraction, recently visited Manila for the highly anticipated fan meet and press conference of Extraction 2, the much-awaited sequel to the action-packed film on Netflix. Scheduled to stream exclusively on Netflix starting June 16, this movie reunites Hemsworth with director Sam Hargrave, promising another adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience.

Since Netflix knows how much Filipinos love Chris, the Asia Pacific premiere of Extraction 2 was held at SM Mall of Asia, where over 800 enthusiastic fans (including myself) eagerly awaited the arrival of Chris and Sam. The waiting game remained fun for those who were able to secure slots near the event hall as they were able to catch a glimpse and snap selfies with local celebrities and influencers, such as Alden Richards, Alodia Gosiengfiao-Quimbo, Jane De Leon, Kris Bernal, and Miguel Tanfelix. Famous action stars from Asia also graced the event, including Derek Ramsey from the Philippines, Aaron Aziz and Iedil Dzuhrie Alaudin from Malaysia, and Ananda Everingham and Nawat Kulrattanarak from Thailand.

Before calling on the stars of the show, fans were also given the chance to get an exclusive peek at behind-the-scenes videos and snippets from the film. Can’t believe that real fire was used in the scenes at the prison ground! Chris really looks a tough mercenary in this one.

As Chris and Sam graced the red carpet, endless cheering filled the event hall! The talented duo took the time to interact with their devoted fans, signing posters and posing for photographs. We even spotted a life-size bust of Chris in the crowd! Filipino fans are really devoted and hardworking when it comes to their idols. Also happy to share that I was one of the lucky ones who were able to get a signature from both Chris and Sam. Chris signed the custom Extraction 2 Tyler Rake Pop that I made, while Sam signed the Extraction 2 poster that I was holding.

The duo also answered a couple of questions about their experience in shooting the film, their favorite parts of the movie, and a couple of fun facts about working with one another. Chris and Sam also played a game with the attendees, but what really caught my attention were their numerous thank you messages to fans in the Philippines. I felt so loved!

Before closing the Q&A, Chris expressed his gratitude to his devoted fans, saying, “Thank you so much for all your support and love for the first film. We appreciate your enthusiasm and excitement for the second one. It’s such an honor. Again, we wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you all so much. I love you guys!”

Khat, the luckiest superfan of the night, even got the chance to get a hug from Chris! But that’s not all, Chris and Sam had a quick chat with her on stage before snapping photos and filming a short video to commemorate the event.

Of course, a special event won’t be complete without a groufie with the attendees! Happy to be part of the 800 Filipinos who welcomed them to the Philippines. Thank you to Netflix for bringing them here!

EXTRACTION 2

Extraction 2 follows the journey of Tyler Rake (played by Chris), a black ops mercenary, as he embarks on another perilous mission. Tasked with rescuing the captive family of a brutal Georgian gangster, Rake must navigate treacherous obstacles and face formidable adversaries to fulfill his mission.

The film brings together a creative team, with director Sam Hargrave once again at the helm. Notably, Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO production company produces the film, while Joe Russo contributes to the screenplay. Golshifteh Farahani reprises her role from the first movie, along with Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, and Tinatin Dalakishvili.

For now, goodbye, Chris and Sam! The Philippines wishes to see you both again soon and hopefully you’d be able to explore more of the not-so-crowded side of the country in the future.

Extraction 2 will start streaming on Netflix this June 16. The countdown begins!
