The importance of having Vitamin B3, B5, and Glycerin in your skincare routine

Before buying a skincare product, there’s always one thing that I ask myself: Is this dermatologist-approved? Back when I used to experiment on the products that I use on my face, dermatologists that I consult would usually remind me to stick to things that my skin needs: Gentle ingredients that do not promise instant results but would really work wonders on my sensitive skin when used regularly. When it comes to skincare concerns, it’s important to prioritize science-based claims over what your favorite celebrity or influencer says or posts as not everything that you see in ads are true.

This is the reason why I’ve been using products like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser for years now. I have eczema — also known as atopic dermatitis, and Cetaphil is one of the brands that my dermatologists recommend! Its formula was recently improved to include Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Panthenol (Vitamin B5) and Glycerin which helps address common signs of skin sensitivity. Here’s a quick explanation on why you need these three things in your skincare routine:

  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): It helps strengthen the skin’s barrier, improve tone, and soothe skin. To do this, it prevents the evaporation of moisture from the skin, locking in all that good stuff. Niacinamide is actually a must-have for those with sensitive skin or those who need anti-inflammatory in their skincare.
  • Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Helps increase skin hydration while decreasing overall water loss for a more supple appearance. It also helps soothe skin sensitivity while enhancing its natural repair process.
  • Glycerin: Draws water into skin to increase and maintain hydration levels, especially on the outer layer. It helps improve skin barrier function, provides protection against irritants, and speeds up healing process.

Together, these three things help address five signs of skin sensitivity — skin dryness, irritation, roughness, tightness, and weakened skin barrier. You can look it up! The information above are from published studies, which I’ve also linked in case you need #receipts. šŸ˜‰

As someone who grew up with sensitive skin and eczema, I only stick to skincare products that have been recommended or at least screened by my dermatologist. Cetaphil is one of those that have always been part of my routine and Iā€™m happy to see that they’re keeping up with the times by improving their Gentle Skin Cleanser formula. Cetaphil has already worked for me before, but I’m sure it will even be better this time! I’ve been using it for the past 48 hours and so far, I haven’t had any adverse reaction from my skin. It also has the same soothing feel that I get from Cetaphil products.

In case you want to try it, the improved Cetaphil products are now available at the official Cetaphil flagship stores in Lazada and Shopee, as well as Mercury Drug, Watsons, and other major retailers.
