Online magazine Village Pipol just got bigger! What started as a simple online poll is now a grand awards show that has also been streamed online. The first-ever VP Choice Awards (VPCA) kicked off last Thursday (January 23, 2020), landing a spot on Twitter Philippines’ Top Trends List during the launch. Almost 200 guests – which included brand executives, online personalities and celebrities – experienced a one-of-a-kind red carpet awarding ceremony held at the main ballroom of Casino Filipino in Manila Bay.
ABS-CBN’s Ultimate Bidaman winner Jin Macapagal and GMA Network’s IT-girl Ashley Ortega hosted the star-studded show attended by millennial artists Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, Darren Espanto, Mimiyuuuh, and even the rising stars of SB19! Of course, the awards night featured a tight competition among all nominees under three major categories – travel, lifestyle, and entertainment. From an online poll ran at the end of 2019, the most famous brands and personalities chosen by online fans (50%), Village Pipol’s editorial team (30%), and a panel of judges (20%) were finally named.
As the event’s title sponsor, Casino Filipino also had the chance to present an award to the lucky stars. Senior Marketing Officer of the Manila Bay Branch Gerlie Bonleon presented the Casino Filipino’s Star of the Night, which went to VPCA’s Loveteam of the Year MayWard (Maymay and Edward), adding an extra shine to their already sparkly outfits and fan-favorite couple name.
