Comic book fans, unite! League Con PH is happening on September 20-22

Unite the squad and fly to SM Megamall this weekend to join a first-of-its-kind celebration at League Con! We heard that participants of the two-day event will get a chance to meet the country’s top comic book artists, shop rare comic collectibles, and feel like a superhero for a day (or three) together with a crowd that love heroes just as much as we do.

With comic book characters transcending print medium to cross over into television, movies, toys, and more, it’s no wonder that our favorites have already taken pop culture by storm. However, hiding at the very heart of this multi-billion dollar industry are creators that are almost never take the spotlight. Comic book pencillers, inkers, colorists, digital artists, sculptors, and writers, to name a few, are just some of the unsung heroes behind the heroes we look up to. This is exactly the inspiration behind League Con – to celebrate these creators and to inspire the next generation of creatives.

The Philippines is home to a plethora of talented artists, most of whom have worked with the top publishers in the world such as DC Comics. It is also the goal of League Con to bring international creators closer to their devout and passionate Filipino fans.

The roster of artists include Mico Suayan, Carlo Pagulayan, Leinil Yu, Stephen Segovia, Harvey Tolibao, Elmer Santos, Heubert Khan Michael, Michael Jason Paz, Miguel Mercado, Raymund Lee, Raymund Bermudez and Romulo Fajardo Jr. The event will be headlined by Malaysian comic book artist Billy Tan, who is behind the Green Lantern (2015) art. There will be opportunities to get signatures, photos, and maybe even a quick sketch from some of the creators.

This three-day event, presented by DC Superheroes Cafe and Ekonic, will be held from September 20-22, 2019 at the Fashion Hall of SM Megamall. Best part of this? Entrance is absolutely FREE.

WHAT ELSE TO EXPECT

Personally, I’m expecting to see more of this! More photo ops with our favorite cosplayers, of course. (Photo taken during the screening of Shazam!)

There will also be art workshops and fun activities. An artist panel will be facilitated by super fan and host RJ Ledesma.

Our favourite retailers will also be selling officially licensed collectibles and merchandise. Brands such as Funko, Kotobukiya, Iron Studios, Silverworks, Mattel, and Wacom will be participating at the event.

Of course, any convention wouldn’t be complete without the live representation of your favourite Superheroes. A cosplay contest will be judged by Jay Tablante and Chris Cantada. Jay Tablante is a premiere cosplay photographer whose works are known worldwide. He has worked with Alodia Gosenfiao, Rhian Ramos, Marian Rivera, and other celebrities/cosplayers to produce beautiful prints of his favourite superheroes. Chris Cantada, former Sponge Cola drummer turned Power Ranger You tuber has over 1 million followers on the platform. Tablante and Cantada will do a panel to talk about their process for their respective crafts.

League Con is shaping up to be an event not to be missed. Whether you’re a comic book fan, an aspiring artist, a toy collector, or you just love superheroes in general, this event is ready to welcome you with open arms. Updates are also available via League Con PH’s Facebook page.
