Exploring Mandaluyong: 8 things to see, try at the rising city center

“Adulting” may be hard for us, millennials, but life can be a bit easier if we choose (and have the means) to live in an area where everything we need can be found right outside our doorstep – from everyday necessities, access to business and commercial venues, fitness centers, restaurants, malls, and relaxation hubs. While everyone is busy debating about whether the north or south is better, let’s put the spotlight somewhere in between where another nature-rich refuge is waiting for our attention – Greenfield District along Shaw Boulevard EDSA.

To our surprise, this 15-hectare community in Mandaluyong City is now teeming with a lot of must-try and must-visit places, as well as a business center for professional and urban dwellers:

1. Trampoline Park

The first of its kind in the Philippines, Trampoline Park has a lot of trampoline mats to help make you feel like a kid again while working out your muscles. For athletes who want a workout, there are tumble tracks as well as a basketball and dodge ball courts to add a competitive dimension to the activity – and for the kids (and kids at heart), there’s a fun foam pit where they can jump and bounce around. Other areas to check out include the Foam Pool, Gravity Dodgeball, Gravity Jump, Gravity Beats, and Gravity Parkour.

Trampoline Park also has its Gravity Sports Club, which hosts different kinds of workouts that they claim can make you lose 1,000 calories per hour. It’s a fun workout that may help you lose weight and instantly boost your mood. They’re open from Monday to Thursday – 12PM – 9PM, Friday –  12PM –10PM, Saturday –  9AM – 10PM, and Sunday –  9AM – 9PM.

2. Climb Central

An air-conditioned indoor rock climbing gym that is as fun and challenging as rock climbing can get. The gym’s facilities allow first-timers to learn the basics of climbing in a safe environment – and with the guidance of expert trainers if they wish. At the same time, the gym also gives more seasoned climbers a space to test themselves, condition their bodies, and improve their form.

Climb Central Manila is open from Monday to Sunday at 1PM to 10PM.

3. Gold’s Gym

For those who prefer classic workout sessions, Gold’s Gym Premier is the place to go. It’s a bit different from all the other branches which has industrial-looking interiors. Gold’s Gym at Twin Oaks Place has elegant features, including laminated wood finishes, curved suspended ceilings, and specialized flooring that have aesthetically pleasing patterns. They have various programs available for a range of fitness enthusiasts. You may sign up for spinning, piloxing, street dance, zumba, or vinyasa yoga classes, depending on your fitness needs.

4. The Hub

A bustling strip of dining options which has a wide range of restaurants with different specialties. Here you’ll find Blackwood Bistro, Ramen Bar, and Le Miel, to name a few. All are perfect for special dinners and occasions, or a gathering of family and friends.

5. The Portal

This area is home to restaurants that are familiar, comforting, and convenient. This would be the go-to place for those who are always on the go. Restaurants here include Pancake House, Yellow Cab Pizza, Serenitea, and Starbucks.

A patch of green at the center of the bustling district where people can walk their worries away. The park is home to the popular Greenfield Weekend Market, which showcases Metro Manila’s best and most unique dishes and beverages while live jazz music fills the air every weekend evening.

In addition to these 8 spots, famous landmarks near the area include Shangri-La Mall, SM Megamall, and Ortigas Center. Malls, schools, places of worship, and business centers are only a stone’s throw away from the district. You can even find an apartment in Mandaluyong where you can stay for a long time!
