Spongebob’s Pretty Patties are real and here’s where you can find them

Remember the Pretty Patties that Spongebob created to beat the sales of The Krusty Krab? Yes, the brightly-colored burgers that accidentally made everyone’s tongue look weird. We found out where four of these rare colored burgers (minus the tongue coloring trait) are hiding so you can try them out for yourselves.

Head over to Frappe Republic in Makati City. It’s situated at the Savana Market in Vito Cruz Extension, just across Shopwise.

Our first order. Yay!

Our first order. Yay! House Blend Iced Tea, Black Forest Frappe, Bae-con ko, and Batman Chicago’s Best.

The good thing about this place is that everything is super affordable. You can get a colored burger for as low as P85! These yummy bunch comes in different flavors with random names – May forever (P85) for the basic burger, Cheezy pa more (P95) for the cheese-filled ones, Bae-con ko (P100) for burgers with bacon strips, Mexicali (P95) for BBQ sauce goodness, Aloha (P105) for additional pineapples, and Chicago’s Best (P115) for a double patty.

Here’s a closer look.

Look at the difference -- the black buns vs the regular ones.

Up to you to choose what color or superhero you prefer. The buns are named after heroes – Batman for black, Captain America for blue, Spiderman for red, and Incredible Hulk for green. If you want to stay as plain as possible, order the regular buns.

Not bad for a regular burger.

Not bad for a regular burger. Tastes better with catsup, mayo, and mustard.

Aside from the fun-colored buns, Frappe Republic also offers different frappe flavors (it’s implied in their name), milkshakes, waffles, cheesecakes in a jar, fries, and nachos.

Pair your burger with a medium-sized serving of fries (P45) and nachos (P65) to amp up the fun. They also have Carbonara for only P65 and waffles for P49.

As for their beverages, I highly recommend that you try their house blend iced tea (P30). It comes with a slice of lemon and it can wash out the taste of onion in your mouth. If you opt to get something sweeter, they have different frappe and milkshake flavors that come in medium (P69) and large (P79) sizes. We tried their Black Forest Frappe and Strawberry Milkshake during our visit – thumbs up for both!

Strawberry Milkshake, anyone?

Unlike previous reviews saying that service is slow, we didn’t experience that kind of problem during our visit. It’s fairly good – nothing special about the burgers aside from the colored buns, and their fries are similar to those sold in popular fastfood chains. What makes this a go-to place is their wide choice of snack staples and accessibility to residents from the Metro.

The downside: The place is pretty small and it isn’t air-conditioned so expect to feel the scorching heat when the sun’s out. Don’t worry, they have wall fans on both sides. Also, there are no screen doors at the entrance. I won’t recommend this place for those who are quite picky about eating beside a road. There are only four tables near the counter that can seat four to five people. More seats are available outside for those who are on the go.

The burgers are highly on demand so don’t be surprised in case some are out of stock. I suggest you drop by on weekdays after lunch so you can order every single thing on the menu.

Originally known for their frappe, Frappe Republic added colored burgers in their menu when they opened their Mandaluyong branch late 2015. Their Makati branch opened in March this year.

Bring at least P500 with you in case you’re dining in with someone.
