By weekend, I mean this weekend (today included) and the weekend after (July 2-3), and the weekend after that (July 9-10).
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the National Parks Development Committee, is continuing its series of activities under their Arts in Public Spaces program at the Rizal Park until the second week of July. The free workshops which started during the last weekend of May highlights appreciation of all art forms – chalk art, storytelling, baybayin writing, tattoo art, calligraphy, and silk screen printing to name a few.
It’s about time that we change the common notion that murals and graffiti are the only art forms prevalent in parks!
For the artsy kids on the block, you might want to block off the following dates:
June 25 – 26 : iDoodle Ballpen Art at the Binhi ng Kalayaan Garden
July 2 – 3 : Paper Origami and Pabalat Making at the Japanese Garden
July 9 -10 : Larong Pinoy and Kite-Making at Burnham Green
These are the last three weekends for worthwhile weekend activities that are totally FREE.
Aside from today’s “Ink-redible” doodling workshop which will start at 3 p.m., a live doodle art wall and a life-size doodle coloring wall will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Would definitely love to check these out myself. For more information, visit NCCA Official’s Facebook page.
Do keep in mind that these activities are meant to be learned and appreciated, not just snapped to be uploaded on social media. It pays to know how those like-worthy photos on your Instagram feed were made. Who knows, maybe you can create your own art for your own artsy needs in the future.
See you there!
