Let’s talk about something we all feel deep down, especially during the holiday season: The need to get the most bang for our buck a.k.a. SULIT! Fresca Tuna nails that sentiment in its short digital mockumentary and Rufa Mae Quinto just makes it more hilarious.
In the film titled “Gold,” our favorite comedienne takes center stage as Luffa May, a quirky character diagnosed with “Di Sulit Hypersensitivity (DSHS).” What’s DSHS, you ask? It’s a “condition” where Luffa May gets unbearably itchy whenever she encounters something not sulit (a.k.a. not worth the price).
The satire is perfect for the times, with prices of everything skyrocketing to unreasonable prices yet we still strive to buy wants over needs beyond our means. Filipinos are all about finding sulit deals, and Fresca Tuna delivers on that promise. But what makes this campaign stand out? It’s Rufa Mae’s over-the-top humor and masa charm that have audiences hooked.
Produced by indie creative powerhouse Leron Leron Sinta, “Gold” blends comedy with relatable real-talk that may make us question “Ganito ba ako? (Am I like this?)”.
“The digital film sets the tone for how Fresca wants to connect with its audiences. We took inspiration from how Filipinos always strive to get the most value for their money,” says Varge Pollins Masanque, one of the Founding Creative Partners of Leron Leron Sinta.
“With Fresca Tuna being a sulit brand, we wanted their social media debut to stand out by blending our signature masa-inspired humor with their strong reasons to believe. Adding Rufa Mae Quinto—an icon beloved by the masses—was the perfect touch, creating a relatable, memorable, and truly masa film,” Masanque added.
The video received over 2 million views in just 24 hours after the film dropped on Facebook. Viewers couldn’t get enough of the clever storytelling and sulit vibes. One comment sums it up: “Nice ad! Funny and relevant. Dapat sa sulit lang talaga lagi, kasi ang mahal na ng mga bilihin! (With skyrocketing prices of consumer goods, smart spending should be the trend.)”
Luffa May might be fictional, but her advice is solid. Fresca Tuna isn’t just about being funny—it’s also about being budget-friendly without sacrificing quality. Whether you’re meal-prepping for the week or whipping up a quick snack, Fresca Tuna is a sulit choice for every smart spender.
