The batsignal is up and it’s summoning us to head to an SM Mall in celebration of Batman’s 85th year anniversary! Fans of the Dark Knight are in for a treat as Warner Bros. Discovery and SM Malls team up to celebrate this beloved hero. Starting May 20 at SM North EDSA, mall-goers can enter a bat cave-like mall activation that brings all things Batman to life—perfect for fans of all ages.
Created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, Batman made his debut in 1939’s Detective Comics #27. Since then, he has become a symbol of determination, courage, and justice. Unlike many other superheroes, Batman doesn’t have superpowers. Instead, he relies on his intelligence, physical prowess, and high-tech gadgets—all driven by a deep-seated desire to fight crime following the tragic loss of his parents.
Over the years, Batman’s story has inspired a lot of us, making him a cultural icon whose adventures continue to thrill readers and viewers worldwide. So of course, I took this opportunity and snuck into the bat cave during its opening day. Here’s the intel I got — there are five things you shouldn’t miss when you drop by:
1. The Bat Computer: A towering 6-meter high bat computer centerpiece would be hard to miss. It showcases Batman’s key milestones, videos from the cartoons and movies, photos from the comic books, and iconic scenes. There’s even a seat for those who want to pretend-assist Batman!
2. Batcave Vault: Of course, will it ever be a Batman celebration without hard-to-find merchandise? I found limited-edition items on sale, ranging from Batman-designed Peculiar eyewear to exclusive toy collectibles!
3. Garage and Training Zones: Ever dreamed of getting up close to the Batmobile? Here, you can explore the legendary vehicle and participate in various interactive games to enhance your Batcave journey. Don’t forget to snap some photos at the numerous photo-ops scattered throughout!
4. Cosplay Encounters: Meet your favorite DC superheroes and villains from the Batman universe. It’s a fantastic chance to interact with seemingly real-life characters and maybe even get a photo or two. Lego Batman is my favorite!
5. Interactive Games and Displays: Test your skills and enjoy the various displays that celebrate Batman’s legacy. Whether you’re a fan of the comics, TV shows, or movies, there’s something here for everyone.
