Veering away from the usual gaming and camera highlights during a smartphone launch, realme is putting the focus on the display of the realme 10 Pro 5G series with the hashtag #DisplayNewVision. The realme 10 Pro 5G and realme 10 Pro Plus 5G are set to hit Philippine shores on February 14, 2023 — just in time for Valentine’s Day. No sweeter way to celebrate this day than with a smartphone upgrade, right? While waiting for the official launch and price reveal, here’s a closer look at a sample unit of the 10 Pro 5G that we got in Nebula Blue.
INSIDE THE BOX
The realme 10 Pro 5G comes in the usual premium-looking yellow box with a huge “10 Pro” label in front so as not to confuse it with the Plus variant. Inside, you’ll find a layer containing the Important Information Guide with Warranty Card, a SIM Ejector Pin and a phone case. Underneath that layer is the unit which already comes with a pre-installed screen protect film, while at the bottom layer sits the 33W SUPERVOOC Charging Adapter and Type-A to Type-C USB Cable — both in white color.
Even though the smartphone comes with a headphone jack, the box doesn’t include wired earphones.
On to a closer look at this premium-looking smartphone: The Nebula Blue variant has a blue iridescent yet matte finish at the back and even on the sides of the device. There are two huge cameras at the back — a 108MP f/1.75 and 2MP f/2.4, along with a small LED flash. Like previous models, there’s also a realme logo printed at the lower left side of the body.
The fingerprint scanner with doubles as a power button can be found at the right side of smartphone, just below the polycarbonate volume rocker. On the left is the SIM tray for a nanoSIM and microSD card.
On top, just at the edge of the frame, you’ll find a row of dots which serves as the earpiece/speaker grills. It’s very noticeable given the blue color but I don’t mind. At the bottom part of the device is the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone port, USB-C port, and another set of speaker grills.
Lastly, in front is a 6.7″ LCD screen with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and 93.76% screen-to-body ratio. The side and top bezels are really slim, but the bottom appears way thicker than the rest. This isn’t the same case for the Pro Plus variant, but that’s for a separate blog post! The display looks amazing so far and the top and bottom-firing speakers make it more enjoyable to watch videos. I just find the punch-hole 16MP f/2.45 selfie camera at the top middle portion of the screen a bit distracting at times, but I’ll honestly let it pass considering how nice my selfies turned out.
The true-to-life colors on the display are also notable, making the realme 10 Pro 5G easy to hide if you’re up for a game of “Spot the Smartphone”. You can check it in action here:
As someone who likes personalized items, I immediately fell in love with the color of the realme 10 Pro 5G. I’m quite easy to please when it comes to colors — as long as they’re in a matte finish, looks flashy, or something straight out of our cotton candy dreams, then it’s a thumbs up for me! In this case, the Nebula Blue boasts of iridescent hues of blue, pink, purple, and hints of gold glares which make it look so pretty, with or without the jelly case.
I was initially worried after seeing only two huge cameras at the back but after trying it out, all I can say is that you shouldn’t judge a smartphone by the appearance of its cameras. My initial photos turned out really vibrant, sometimes a bit saturated, but mostly clear even when taking photos while on a moving vehicle.
Portrait blurring, on the other hand, remains to be a hit-and-miss as it sometimes fails to identify glasses/specs as something on the face. There’s also no ultra-wide option in the realme 10 Pro 5G but there is a Group Portrait option to help with our “Gen Z selfie” shots.
So far, I like the combination of the specs on paper. The 5,000mAH battery paired with fast charging also makes it an ideal productivity partner for people who hustle 8 to 5. I’ll be firing up heavier apps in the next few days so stay tuned for our full review!
