Back when I was in college (some time around 2011-2014), I remember how almost everyone was raving about boat shoes; and not just any boat shoes, but Sperry Topsiders to be more specific. Wearing neutral-toned boat shoes with a cute barrel knot were a style staple back then! Fast forward to 2022, the storied American shoemaker is getting ready to re-enter the market with a lot of new things up their sleeves… or soles. They recently launched a more youthful take on not only boat shoes, but also sneakers and slides with their Holiday Escape Collection; a new retail store at Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila; a fresher and modern store aesthetic that champions “water for all”, and a new take on their iconic classics.

That’s a whole bunch of good news for boat shoe lovers out there so here’s an overview on how we can celebrate a Sperry Merry Christmas this month and beyond:

The Holiday Escape Collection

Sperry’s Holiday Escape collection features fun and playful prints and hues that evoke an endless summer — a new take vs the usual neutral colors that the brand is known for. The tropical details can definitely add a dash of whimsy to any outfit, may that be for the beach or a plain #OOTD. My favorites would be the sky blue boat shoe and the comfy slides. Definitely a treat for the holidays!

Painting stores blue with a new look

Sperry’s new contemporary store concept presents a modern depiction of the place where land and water meet. Setting foot inside their store feels like traveling via water as the walls are donned with blue vibrant waves. Just being in the store gives a sense of exhilaration for your next beach getaway! Sperry Lucky Chinatown is the first store globally to adopt this fresh and exciting look.

New store, new immersive experience

In line with the opening of their latest branch in Binondo — the first out of many stores to sport a modern look, Sperry will be holding a special exhibit at Lucky Chinatown Mall’s Activity Area from December 11 to 20. It displays the brand’s latest collections and rich heritage, as well as shoe-related activities and giveaways. They also have an ongoing sale! Every shoe purchase entitles you to spin a wheel that contains prizes such as discounts and freebies, too.

Iconic classics redesigned

Fans of Sperry will be glad to know that the classic Topsiders and its vast selection of boat shoes, sneakers, and sandals are aplenty. The store features their landmark SeaCycled collection made with recycled plastics and eco-friendly materials, and put together using manufacturing processes that prioritize sustainability without compromising style and comfort. Average price for Sperry products remain at Php 3,000 despite the updated look.
