Girl Talk: How to find the right panty for your body

Hourglass, apple, pear, or rectangle — did you know that your body type should also be a factor when choosing undies? For years, I’ve been writing about how to find the right eyeglass frame for your face shape, the best shade for your skintone, and even the flattering styles for clothes. However, what goes underneath all these layers of #OOTD can also make or break our overall look, so let’s go through each body type one by one as well.

To be honest, I didn’t know any of these things before I encountered Avon’s Intimate Apparel Guide as I firmly believed no one will see my undies anyway, but as I was going through the various panty designs, I saw the reason why I never felt confident wearing certain styles (like a bikini) and it was enlightening. I sure wish someone taught me about these things sooner so I wouldn’t have forced my size into uncomfy styles!

Every body is unique. There are a lot of body types ranging from a simple oval to more complicated shapes like a spoon. However, the most common ones are pear, hourglass, apple, and rectangle:

HOURGLASS

Appearance: If you have a small waistline, and have bust and hips that are nearly equal in width, then you have an hourglass body type.

Despite beliefs that the hourglass shape is the perfect body type, remember that we’re all built differently and we’re perfect in our own little ways!

Best Panty Shapes: Hi-leg, Hipster, Bikini, Midi

APPLE

Appearance: This is also called “inverted triangle” by some. If your shoulders are almost equal or wider than your hips and your waistline has the same width or is wider than your shoulders, you have an apple body shape.

Best Panty Shapes: Bikini, Hi-leg, Full Brief, Maxi

PEAR

Appearance: If your hips are wider than your shoulder, forming a triangle-like shape, you’re a pear! Usually, pear-shaped bodies also have buttocks and thighs that are full and round.

Best Panty Shapes: Midi, Hipster, Full Brief, Maxi

RECTANGLE

Appearance: I usually call this the catwalk model body as people who are slim usually have this body shape. People under this category have hips, waistline, and shoulders that have about the same width and their buttocks are usually less defined.

Best Panty Shapes: Bikini, Hipster, Full Brief, Midi, Maxi

MEASURING YOUR PANTY SIZE

After figuring out your body shape and preferred style, another thing to consider when picking intimate apparel is finding out the correct size. Here’s a tip from Avon: Using a tape measure, find out your hip size by measuring around the fullest part of your hips — usually around 10 inches below the waist. After, refer to Avon (or any brand’s) size chart to see if you fall under small, medium, large, and so on.

I’m a fan of seamless undies but on days when I wear loose clothing, Avon undies give me comfort. The seams aren’t too tight, they don’t leave a mark on the skin after a whole day, and most of all, they don’t look baggy or what others call “granny panties”.
