Wine and cheese, anyone?
As we grow older, wine nights are becoming more and more common than alcohol and beer-filled parties inside clubs or bars. That may be our inner “tita” awakening or we’re just starting to enjoy drinks that can be paired with exquisite dishes and types of cheese. It’s a fun mix-and-match adventure!
With this new habit in tow, your Manila Millennial dropped by the Marketplace by Rustan’s World of Wine Fair VIP Night last Thursday (September 27, 2018) as they officially launched the 3-day celebration at the Shangri-La Plaza Grand Atrium. Now on its second year, winemakers are back with over 100 featured wines to sample and sell at exclusive rates during their fair. Featuring premium wines sourced directly from estate, the event boasts selections from 8 different winemaking countries, including Italy, France, USA, Chile, Argentina, and more. All these will be available from September 28-30 only.
To guide you in this wine-derful journey, here’s a list of things you shouldn’t miss in the next few days:
1. Try samples from international winemakers
Of course, it would be best to sample these wine first before making a purchase! This year, 15 international winemakers and wine experts will be present at World of Wine to share their expertise and give insider’s information on wine culture to shoppers. Among those returning to the fair from last year are Laurent Mery rom Château Lamothe in France, Anthony Murphy from the Trentham winery in Australia, and Mark Davidson from the Tamburlaine winery in Australia.
2. Straight from the Vineyard sessions
Those who wish to expand their knowledge on wine will find the ideal platform in the Straight from the Vineyard sessions scheduled on the following dates:
SEPTEMBER 28
- 2 PM: Laurent Barrier will be delivering his talk on Understanding the Bordeaux Wine Region
- 4 PM: Johan Oberauch will help guests discover new wonders with his Introduction to German and Alsace wine
- 6 PM: Sam Stephens will take guests through Napa Valley and its Iconic Brands
SEPTEMBER 29
- 2 PM: Hugo Stabio will shed light on Patagonia – Climate, terroir, and winemaking
- 4 PM: Guests can look forward to an eye-opening lecture on Rioja: Glorious History and Heritage of Spain’s Leading Region with Pedro Tapero
- 6 PM: Florent Genty will dispel any misconceptions with his talk on First Growths and Bordeaux complex fine wine classification
SEPTEMBER 30
- 2 PM: Anthony Murphy will offer his assessment of The Rise of Italian Varietals in Australia
- 4 PM: Mark Davidson will hold a comprehensive talk about What Makes Wine Organic? Organic Winemaking Explained
- 6 PM: get acquainted with Italy’s Flagship Varietals with Andrea Balsamo
To register for a session, simply present your Fresh, Marketplace, or Sapphire card at any Marketplace by Rustan’s branch in Shang, Rockwell or Makati and pay P299 a session. Non-cardholders may enroll for only P500. As a gift, all participants in the sessions will walk home with a free bottle of wine.
3. Enjoy discounts!
Enjoy 10% off all bottles purchased at the fair, and 15% off if you get 6 or more bottles. Those who spend P5,000 or more will also be entitled to free delivery.
