#BrandstormPH: Next generation innovations for the salon of the future

Millennials are known for being bold, creative, and daring especially when it comes to style. But it’s not just the sense of fashion that sets us apart from other generations. We are also known for not conforming with the norm, for pushing what we believe is best, and for putting up the craziest ideas to help innovate the future.

The last set of millennials would probably be in college right now, so we just had to take a look at how they’re doing during the recently concluded Brandstorm 2018, hosted by L’Oréal, here in the Philippines. True enough, their ideas of designing the “salon of the future” in partnership with L’Oréal Professional did not disappoint! In fact, we’re looking forward to see their ideas come to life.

L’Oréal Brandstorm has always stood as an innovation-incubator for some of the most promising talents in the industry. It is always inspiring to see what students come up with with their fresh perspectives and forward-looking insights,” shares Tina Ampil, L’Oréal Philippines General Manager for Human Resources.

Started in 1992 and present in 60 countries, Brandstorm is one of the largest student competitions in the world, and has been an innovation-incubator for some of the most promising talents in the industry. Locally, L’Oréal Philippines has mounted the annual business competition since 2009. For 2018, where over 3,570 players from over 30 universities joined, Brandstormers were tasked to to re-imagine and re-invent the professional salon experience of the future by creating breakthrough innovations that combines the application of the most modern technologies to attract and engage millennials as well as increase hairdressers’ loyalty.

Ideas shared by the top 8 teams that made it to the National Finals held at Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas last Thursday (April 12, 2018) ranged from salon scanner mobile apps, social media challenge of going bold, to touch gloves that can help add a personalized touch to every salon visit.

The night ended with Team C^3 from UP Diliman being named as the National Champion who will be going home with a cash prize and a trip to Paris. They’ll be representing the Philippines as they battle it out with other countries at the L’Oréal International Finals.

L’Oréal Brandstorm 2018 National Champions, Team C^3 from University of the Philippines Diliman, goes to Paris to represent the Philippines in the Worldwide Finals. Their winning idea called “Reign” centered around an innovation that allows a more personalized in-salon and aftercare experience. L’Oréal Brandstorm pushed the limits of innovation by encouraging us to think outside the box. It was a never-ending process of researching and revising our case, until we were completely satisfied with it. With winning this year’s competition, we are excited to fulfill our dream to represent the country in the L’Oréal Brandstorm Worldwide Finals in Paris, France,” shared the team.

Following suit are Team Bellus from University of the Philippines Visayas (1st runner up) and Team Tala from De La Salle University-Manila (2nd runner up). Both teams win cash prizes and products for their mentors.

We’ve already tried and tested a lot of L’Oreal’s hair products – Kerastase, Majirel, TechniArt, and Mythic Oil, to name a few – and we’re excited to see how these amazing individuals can help make the salon of the future even better than its best. Here’s a peek at their products that have helped colored hair (like mine) for years:
