10 things to watch out for in ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’

Move over, science and religion. Ice Age has its own theory about the solar system’s creation… and it’s just adorably hilarious!

Just a friendly reminder: If you take science and the creation story seriously and it’s hard for you to fathom any seemingly construed theories shown in a movie for kids, then don’t bother watching this. But if you’re still up for the thrill of another crazy adventure with our prehistoric leads, here are 10 things to expect and watch out for in the upcoming Ice Age: Collision Course:

1. Scrat continuously scratting for the perfect acorn hiding place

Scrat’s chase for his beloved acorn continues up to the fifth period of Ice Age, where another threat catapults its way to Earth… because of him. Dubbed as a “Scratastrophe”, expect major changes in the storyline because of this cute little saber-toothed squirrel’s role. As seen from the trailer, he was able to accidentally create a solar system. How bad can it get?

2. Technology that’s out of this world

Forget about being the first man on the moon or sending the first rover to Mars. Little Scrat has done it all – in complete space suit and space ship — before we even existed.

3. Prehistoric events that are not written in the books

The people over at 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios brought in a twisted take of prehistoric happenings and it’s actually entertaining. If you’re watching with kids, make sure to explain what’s being taught in school, though. You wouldn’t want them answering “Scrat did it” when asked about how the solar system came to be.

4. Important family matters

This is a movie for kids but parents (especially those with a solo child) can learn a thing or two from the mammoth family – from raising a teen, letting him/her go, and watching a new chapter of his/her life unfold.

5. Doomsday prophecies and how to deal with them

Buck the weasel, being the Einstein of the team, sure knows how to deal with “ancient prophecies”. Instead of freaking out about the end of the world, he’s got some wise words up his sleeve (or fur).

6. Highly impossible methods of survival

This is a movie for children so expect too-good-to-be-true scenes and don’t ruin the fun!

7. There’s a Fall Out Boy song somewhere in there

Sounds like good news for FOB fans; however, it’s not in the same intensity as the one from Big Hero 6. You’ll hear it when you least expect it!

8. A chart-topping artist giving voice to a new character

No revelations here. When tomorrow comes, (you’ll) be on (your) own. (Get the hint?)

9. How Mars became the red planet

Buck shows us why life has totally disappeared in Mars towards the end of the movie. It’s fascinating how the production team was able to stitch all these little details together.

10. A sixth movie, maybe?

If there’s one thing that Scrat can’t do, it’s to hide and be at peace with his acorn for a long time. With a never-ending acorn chase, there’s a high probability that a sixth movie might usher in a new era. Besides, the inner kid in us would like to see more of the Diego-Shira and Sid-Brooke love story. Plus that baby pumpkin from Buck.

Sorry for the slight spoilers! Know the whole story by heading over to cinemas nationwide this coming Wednesday (July 6, 2016).

Ces the millennial says: I was able to watch the press screening of the movie and I can attest that this is more entertaining than the first one! Crazy possibilities were explored, history was given a twist, and the beginning of meditation and the quest for eternal youth were also shown in fiction form.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, grownups can also pick up a thing or two that may guide them in the future. And as usual, expect our lead mammals to be at the brink of extinction. Thanks to Scrat, who’s stuck in outerspace, an asteroid is headed towards Earth and is about to wipe out every living thing on the planet. Now on their fifth installment, we can now call them masters of survival.

Ice Age: Collision Course runs for 1 hour and 34 minutes, featuring the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Keke Palmer, Jennifer Lopez, Queen Latifah, Adam Devine, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, to name a few. Save the date! It’s in 3D starting July 6.
