Can cucumbers can be turned into exchangeable monetary units? For Hendrick’s Gin, yes it can!

As we celebrate World Cucumber Day on June 14, Hendrick’s Gin is changing the way we value this humble green fruit (Fun fact #2, yes it’s a fruit). By transforming cucumbers into exchangeable monetary units, Hendrick’s Gin invites everyone to savor the unique experience of trading a cucumber for a delightful Hendrick’s & Tonic.

HOW IT WORKS

World Cucumber Day is an annual celebration where Hendrick’s Gin pays homage to this remarkable fruit by infusing delightful peculiarity into everyday universal things. The goal is to inspire individuals to cultivate and embrace their unusual side. It’s a day to break free from the ordinary and explore the extraordinary!

Following the resounding success of 2019’s cash-for-cucumber exchange, Hendrick’s Gin has teamed up with 38 renowned bars, including Bar 55, Lampara, Bar Flora, After Hours, Salt and Ice (Molito and BGC), Oto, Curator, Run Rabbit Run, Japonesa, West 32, Agimat, Distillery, Hola Bombón, Southbank (Estancia and Alabang), Brick and Mortar, Burnt Bean, Craft BGC, Fauna, St. Louis, LIT, LAB, Katsu, Scarlet, Draft (Molito, BGC, Rockwell), Maillard, Silong, Spritz, Keepers Bar, Hola Eat Drink & Play, RM16, Kona PH, Vault, Bar by East, and Seven to facilitate these unorthodox transactions. During a dedicated ‘Cucumber Hour’ on June 14, from 5 to 11 pm, these bars will gladly accept cucumbers of any species as currency, aptly named “bar tender,” in exchange for a refreshing Hendrick’s & Tonic. It’s an innovative twist on the traditional “cocktail hour”.

In case you’re also curious about the taste of Hendrick’s & Tonic with cucumber, here’s an easy mix you can try even at the comfort of your own home:

HOW IT BEGAN

Hendrick’s Gin has always revered the cucumber as a key ingredient in their exceptional distillation process. By infusing rose and cucumber, they craft an extraordinarily smooth gin that combines lightness and complexity in a truly rare manner. The result is a gin that captivates the senses with its delightfully unusual flavor. To enhance the experience, Hendrick’s Gin encourages adding a slice of the very cucumber that imparts its distinct taste, creating the perfect finishing touch to any Hendrick’s cocktail.

“After a well-received trial in 2019, where we converted the beloved cucumber into currency, we’re inviting curious-minded individuals once again to exchange this unconventional green fruit for the most peculiar libation, a Hendrick’s & Tonic,” comments Charmaine Thio, Hendrick’s Southeast Asia Ambassador. “There is simply no better way to cap off a Hendrick’s cocktail than with a little green garnish cut from the same fruit that gives the gin its delightfully unusual flavour. Whether it’s a classic slice, peculiar spears, a bold wedge or an unusual tongue, the cucumber gives ample opportunity for expressive experimentation in shape and size that is sure to please the eye as well as the palate.”

Grab on to those cucumbers! Mark your calendars for June 14 and make your way to the participating bars to indulge in the unconventional charm of ‘Cucumber Hour.’ From 5 to 11 pm, experience the thrill of trading a cucumber for a refreshing Hendrick’s & Tonic, and embark on a journey of flavors like no other.
