Meet Aveeno’s answer to different levels of skin needs, sensitivities (eczema included!)

Did you know that National Healthy Skin Month is being celebrated every November? It was created by the American Academy of Dermatology in hopes of raising awareness on the importance of keeping the skin hydrated, especially for people who go through winter. However, for people like me who have sensitive skin (with eczema to be exact), Healthy Skin Month reminders are part of the things I need to keep in mind every hour of every day as there are many triggers that may cause skin flare-ups. Many do not realize that having sensitive skin isn’t a skin type, but rather a skin state – may it be dry skin, hormonal skin, sunburnt, red, or eczema-prone.

In line with Healthy Skin Month activities a few weeks back, skin science leader Aveeno introduced everyday solutions made with science-backed formulations that can help soothe, heal, and protect dry and sensitive skin. The best part about their products? Everything is free of parabens, phthalates, and dyes, earning it a spot in dermatologists’ recommendations list.

Dr. Ayees Mendoza, board-certified dermatologist and fellow of the Philippine Dermatological Society.

At a recent roundtable with Dr. Ayees Mendoza, a board-certified dermatologist and fellow of the Philippine Dermatological Society, attendees were given tips on what to do and what to avoid when it comes to skin-related concerns. For starters, did you know that the ideal bath time should only be 10-15 mins? According to Dr. Mendoza, keeping our skin wet for 30 minutes or more, as well as scrubbing may lead to dryness and further irritation. Lukewarm water is also preferred vs cold or hot water!

After bathing, Dr. Mendoza also emphasized that it’s better to moisturize as much as we can rather than applying too little of our preferred products. For people like me who have combination skin – partly oily and partly dry with eczema, she also recommended putting different moisturizers or lotions that address specific skin concerns. This is where Aveeno’s innovative solutions come in:

  • For normal/sensitive skin: Best to use Aveeno Daily Moisture with prebiotic colloidal oats that help prevent daily skin sensitivity and dryness by locking in moisture.
  • For dry to sensitive skin: You can use Aveeno Skin Relief which helps restore moisture loss, soothes, and relieves dryness. It provides long-lasting protection with its triple oat complex and natural colloidal oats. This is my current fave!
  • For extremely dry and eczema-prone skin: Aveeno Dermexa is a specialized line for people with eczema. This combines triple oats and ceramides that provides immediate comfort, prevents flare-ups and recurrence of extreme dryness. Based on my experience, this one’s harder to find in mall and drugstore shelves but I’ve heard really good reviews about it.

I have been an Aveeno user for around two years now (if I’m not mistaken) and it was also a dermatologist who suggested that I try it out. It comes in big 532mL pump bottles for home use and smaller pocket-friendly tubes for travels. So far, with my combination skin, I found more comfort in the Aveeno Skin Relief line, but I can’t wait to finish my current bottles and switch to Aveeno Dermexa! That’s next in my to-try list.

Aveeno’s new and improved line of products continues to build on its heritage of care by continuously researching ingredients on nature’s soothing and healing properties to help provide care for all skin, even the most sensitive. The new Aveeno now has +50% more oat extract in prebiotic triple oat complex for immediate relief from dry and itchy skin in as fast as 60 seconds. The packaging is also better-looking than before!

In case you want to try it for yourself, you can find Aveeno products at Watsons stores and SM Department Stores nationwide, as well as online via Johnson and Johnson Lazada and Shopee pages.

I swear by Aveeno! You can take my word for it. 😊
