A closer look at the new G-SHOCK, BABY-G Youth Collection

Remember how the cool kids in High School wore classic BABY-G watches or huge colorful G-SHOCK pieces? I’m sure millennials born in the 1990s would be able to relate! Even after all these years, both brands never lost their youthful allure despite the rise of smartwatches towards 2020. Further cementing the fact that they are here to stay, G-SHOCK even recently celebrated two more milestones — the launch of their Youth Collection and the official opening of the G-SHOCK store at High Street, BGC.

TIME MOVEMENT: YOUTH COLLECTION

There are three collections available — Time Distortion, BABY-G x X-Girl collab, and the Street Spirit line. The Time Distortion line sports patterns on both its band and dial, creating a “distorted” effect with its vibrant fluorescent colors that look like something taken straight out of a sci-fi movie. There’s the iconic digital DW-D5600TD, the DW-5900TD with a triple graph design, and the DW-6900TD with a distinctive front button design.

If you’re more of a street art fan, there’s the Street Spirit line with splashes of bold colors on its band and bezel, mimicking graffiti art that would look great with any #OOTD. There’s the iconic DW-5000SS, the metallic GM-5600SS and GM-2100SS, and oversized pieces such as the GA-110SS and GX-56SS.

Lastly, for the ladies who want something for chic, BABY-G has released a line in collaboration with street-style brand X-Girl. This set called BABY-G x X-Girl embodies music, culture, sports, and other street scene elements. There’s the BGD-565XG in polarized neon colors which can also be interchanged with a black resin bezel and bands for a more versatile look. X-Girl’s logo can be found printed on the band loop and on the display when you press the light button.

“Casio has developed the new G-SHOCK and BABY-G lines to cater to the young generation who lives active lifestyles and those who do not compromise their style. They do not want to fade in the background: They want to express themselves and in doing so, they make great impressions. In other words, they stand out,” explains Sena Kuroda, Sales Manager for Timepiece of Casio.

ANALOG-DIGITAL WATCHES ARE HERE TO STAY

“We are continuously evolving as a brand in pursuit of greater toughness and design that match the effortless style of consumers today,” says Isabella Concepcion, Head of Marketing of CSC-Time, Inc.

As someone who grew up with an analog and digital smartwatch on her wrist, I still have a strong attachment with these designs that represent who I am — my style, my favorite color, and the like. It’s not something I need to charge consistently, too! So for that, G-SHOCK / BABY-G wins my heart.

GET IN THE MOVEMENT

The Street Spirit Collection is available in physical stores, while the Time Distortion Collection and the BABY-G x X-Girl Collaboration models will be arriving mid-December. Price ranges from Php 17,000 to 21,000. You can check the size and try it on at the newly opened G-SHOCK High Street branch and other G-SHOCK stores nationwide from 10 AM to 9 PM daily. I would highly suggest that you purchase in stores because not all the models are as small as they look like in photos!
