SUI Gin 101: How to create the best mix for every meal

No need to go to Japan to get a taste of their gin standard! Suntory recently introduced SUI Gin — a clear and refreshing gin that pairs well with any and all dishes! It’s made by combining yuzu, green tea, and ginger that are distinctly Japanese and traditional gin botanicals – juniper berry, coriander seed, angelica root, cardamom, cinnamon, bitter orange peel, and lemon peel.

It takes its name SUI 翆 after the “Kingfisher”. On the bottle, the bold Kanji character is inked by master calligrapher Tansetsu Ogino. Kanji 翡翠, which means Jade, is a nod to its tall hexagonal shape reflecting clear and beautiful blue-green accents that speak of Suntory’s hope that SUI will spread its wings and soar high in the gin market.

If you’ve already tried gin before, it has the same feel except SUI Gin has its special tasting notes. It smells like strong yuzu citrus and alcohol, tastes rich with a hint of green tea and mild bitterness of other traditional botanicals, and has a peppery punch of ginger finish. You won’t be able to appreciate all these flavors if you just take quick shots, though!

Before drinking gin, make sure to eat or at least eat while drinking because this can pack a punch! It has 40% alcohol by volume, so don’t try chugging it all down from the bottle.

HOW TO SERVE SUI GIN?

The classic (and easiest) way to enjoy SUI Gin is to either take shots OR mix it with soda water. It’s nice to pair with different types of food! You can make your own concoction for a more customized experience by adding a squeeze of lemon, a tablespoon of Yuzu juice, raw grated ginger, or green tea. For more unique flavors, get trendy by adding crushed plum, wasabi, shiso leaves, or frozen oranges. Here’s a quick guide to get you started:
