5 Fuss-free ways to clear our minds, lessen stress while at home

Despite working from home and staying at home more often, there are people (like me), who still get stressed about different things. The four corners of our home instantly became an all-in-one space — office, gym, recreational, rest, and dining area — that sometimes, it becomes so difficult for our minds to separate our work life from other things. Not to mention people who have no choice but to stay in a place where they don’t really feel “at home”.

Without much-needed fresh air and sunlight to give us energy, our minds can become cluttered, leading us to become sluggish and to forget that nature and a bit of “me time” even while indoors may hold the key to fresher, better, and stress-free days. To clear our headspace, here are 5 suggestions that I also personally do, which might be able to help:

1. Drink water first thing in the morning

Multiple studies have already been made regarding the benefits of drinking a glass of water as soon as you get up in the morning. Some also state that drinking water 30 mins before a meal can also help curb overeating. Drinking water helps rehydrate your body, boost your alertness and energy levels, and jumpstart your metabolism. You can put some lemon for a change, too!

TIP: Keep a full glass or tumbler beside you all day to remind yourself to drink water. You can also download a Water Reminder app or use a smartwatch with alarms to be reminded every time we need to hydrate.

2. Minimize distractions

Remove all possible distractions – yes, including your gadgets, when it’s time to relax. We know work can call anytime and anywhere but save time for yourself (I’m trying, too!). If you’re working from home, challenge yourself to keep away from unnecessary gadgets and the add-ons that come along (checking social media pages included) with them, by leaving them in another room or turning them off for a certain period. Taking a quick break from stressful news from time to time won’t make you a bad person, too. Just take a quick break and then go back at it again when you already have a clear headspace. It helps!

3. Try using scented candles or essential oils

Regardless of what you are currently doing, set the mood you want with scented candles or essential oils. Scented candles are especially beneficial in creating a peaceful and calm atmosphere. Lavender is my favorite and I’d highly recommend that to everyone! Lavender is a scent that is known to reduce stress, anxiety, and alleviate headaches. Grab some tea while you’re at it.

4. Try meditation

Often overlooked, this simple relaxation technique can help clear your headspace, leading to reduced stress, increased calmness and focus, and better sleep. For even just five minutes, close your eyes, tune out, and focus on your breathing.

5. Take a quick shower and treat yourself to a scalp massage

A good shower is one way to recharge, especially when you take the time to massage your scalp while you shampoo your hair. Doing this not only removes dirt and oil, but also gets your blood flowing again. You can even use a scalp massager after!
