Who else grew up in a household where their parents (almost always) hum, sing, and make references from Ghostbusters? I’ve had my fair share of “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts” in mine. That’s why I can’t help but feel nostalgic after seeing athletic shoe brand K-Swiss launch two Ghostbusters-inspired pairs that will surely trap the hearts of both millennials and older generations. Slimer and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man will be so proud!
In celebration of the original 1984 film’s 35th anniversary, K-Swiss came up with a modern look for two of their archived models – Classic 2000 and Si-18 International. These shoes are now “possessed” by the classic film’s infamous villains – Slimer and Stay Puft. Manila Millennial was able to get a closer look at each pair at Case Study Atelier in Bonifacio Global City last Tuesday (September 3, 2019), so we’re here to give you a peek as well:
Stay Puft x Si-18 International
My personal choice between the two, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is designed in his original colorway – white, red and blue – for the Si-18 International. The shoe features a quilted puffed toe box and die-cut EVA sock liners with Stay Puft logos on the inside. The colors and look perfectly reminds you of this cute Marshmallow Man in just one glance (and touch).
The model sits atop a translucent rubber outsole, providing durable traction for everyday wear. There is a custom Stay Puft woven label on the tongue, embroidered “GB-84” for the year Ghostbusters released, and an exclusive K-Swiss x Ghostbusters lockup logo completes the commemorative embellishments.
They’re so comfortable and soft – both inside and out. No joke, it feels like this pair was made to be marshmallow-like for your feet. Each purchase also come with laces that read “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts”!
Slimer x Classic 2000
Renowned sneaker customizer Alexander-John brought Slimer to life on a Classic 2000 in Ectoplasm Green translucent PVC, animated with his infamous pink tongue on the insole, ready to “eat your soles” out. The upper portion features a metal d-ring lace system and die-cut EVA sock liners finessed with the Ghostbusters logo. The outsole features a glow-in-the-dark translucent green rubber outsole to match the upper.
These would look great when paired with cute socks since you can see through the translucent rubber outsole.
“K-Swiss has done an excellent job at creating shoes that celebrate the villains and the history of Ghostbusters. We are very excited to celebrate this mile marker anniversary with them and the fans,” shares Jamie Stevens, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Consumer Products for Sony Pictures Entertainment.
“We are very excited to bring this faithful tribute to Slimer and Stay Puft in honor of Ghostbusters’ 35th anniversary,” says Geoff Nishimoto, K-Swiss Collaborations Manager.
The limited-edition collection will be sold exclusively at Case Study, C2, Lower Ground of Bonifacio High Street Central in Taguig City. We heard that there are only 72 pairs in the Philippines and limited sizes are available, so it’s best to grab a pair now while you still can. Price ranges from P6k – P9k.
