2019 is probably the best year of eSports in the Philippines. This year saw way more events – from PC to mobile gaming, that ushered in a new breed of Filipino gamers who are ready to take on the world stage, and the scene just keeps on getting better and better before the year ends! At the recently concluded 2019 Taiwan Excellence eSports Cup held from October 4-6, 2019 at the SM City North EDSA, The Block Atrium in Quezon City, guests, gaming enthusiasts, and spectators were treated to a demonstration of how the synthesis of Pinoy prowess and Taiwan Excellence can elevate the local eSports community.
In case you missed it, here’s a look at 8 of the jaw-dropping #goals-worthy things that we saw with our own eyes:
1.P430,000 prize pool
Who wouldn’t say no to extra cash? At the Taiwan Excellence eSports Cup, we weren’t able to stop ourselves from saying “wow” after the prize pool was announced. The teams who vied for the P430,000 prize pool through Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and League of Legends (LOL), were also undoubtedly forces to reckon with!
And as if the prize pool wasn’t enough, the winning team of the CS:GO tournament will also be representing the country in an upcoming international competition in Taiwan!
2. WINBOT interactive PC case
Probably the world’s first interactive PC case, the new WINBOT is InWin’s 7th generation limited-edition concept design that is intelligent enough to recognize a user’s facial features and hand gestures. With its elegant spherical case and 360-degree system display, a user can easily showcase the fierce hardware inside. There’s a camera attached to the case, which is used for real-time interactivity. We didn’t ask how much it was (because we’re 100% sure that it’s way above our paycheck) but more details can be found at InWin’s website.
3. Aourus WaterForce Build
Totally something we’d love to have not just for aesthetic purposes but for its cooling power as well! The water that passes through the tubes can be entertaining to watch, but this goes beyond beauty. Equipped with one of the highest Intel and Nvidia products, the DIY water cooling system keeps your PC parts in ship-shape – definitely a must-have of every gamer.
4. ASUS Laptops
As someone who prefers laptops over desktops, my eyes were glued on the gaming laptops at Taiwan Excellence. ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) had the upperhand with various models on display. ASUS ROG Strix Scar III G531, ROG Strix G G731GV, Asus TUG Gaming FX505DV, and ROG Zephyrus M were just some of those being showcased.
5. Powerful Gaming RAM
The Zeus Dragon DDR4 RGB Gaming RAM 3200MHz is just one of those on display that caught our attention. Aside from its sleek appearance, covered by a dragon-shaped heatsink that shines in RGB colors, it also contains high-quality IC chips. Said to be efficient with heat dissipation!
6. InWin 307
Another eye candy at the event, the IW-CF06B can easily captivate people with its LED RGB panel with a total of 12 customizable lighting modes. The GLOW software interface looks like something straight out of a spy movie. Remember those hacking scenes that involve interactive lights from a computer? That’s the vibe it’s giving off.
7. G. Skill RIPJAWS Keyboard
Aside from a full RGB backlighting, which a lot of gamers love, the RIPJAWS KM780 RGB keyboard takes pride in its 100% Cherry MX mechanical keyswitches and media control keys with a die-case volume roller. Included in its features are 3 on-board setting profiles and macro recording functions.
8. Live Streamer CAM
To be honest, I would love to do live streaming if only I’m already 100% confident about my gameplay. For now, I can only dream and plan ahead with the Live Streamer CAM 313 on top of my to-buy list (in case that time comes). It’s a plug-and-play USB webcam that records in 1080p30 for podcasting, streaming, and gaming. It also comes with 2 built-in microphones so you can interact with viewers.
“As it has always been, the aim of Taiwan Excellence is to make lives better by bringing our technologies and products closer to the consumers and users who need them the most. Through events like the 2019 Taiwan Excellence eSports Cup, we were able to give the Filipino gaming community the experience of enhanced gameplay through optimized devices from Taiwan makers, as well as to give the opportunity to eSports athletes to showcase their skills in the regional arena,” says CT Wu, Director of the Strategic Marketing Department of TAITRA.
Last Sunday, a cosplay competition – which celebrated Filpino creativity and ingenuity, was also held at The Block. Of course, cosplay celebrities Myrtle Sarrosa and Ashley Gosiengfiao graced the event. Other performances during the 3-day celebration include UPeepz Dance Crew and pop-rock band GraceNote.
