MUST-TRY: Samgyetang, bibimbap, other authentic Korean dishes that you can find at Busan Kitchen

With a lot of local restaurants offering dishes inspired by the flavors of foreign countries, it’s already quite hard to distinguish what is authentic and what is not – especially if we haven’t tried flying to that specific country yet. Good thing there are restaurants like Busan Kitchen, which takes pride in the authenticity of their recipe and ingredients which all came straight from Korea. Plus, food is prepared by a Korean chef!

Located in Pasig City, Busan Kitchen continues to operate and accept orders via Facebook or via call (0279015136 / 09959869358) to serve their customers’ Korean dish cravings. As someone who loves Korean food, I’m amazed at how they are able to offer a lot on their menu without sacrificing the food’s quality. This is actually my first time to find a Korean restaurant that offers the famous Samgyetang, also known as Ginseng Chicken Soup, here in the Philippines!

For those who are not yet familiar with what they offer, here are my recommendations:

1. Samgyetang

A popular Korean dish which is said to help medicinal issues (e.g. hypertension, issues after giving birth) when consumed as is. For others, salt and pepper are added until the soup becomes super tasty. It reminds me of Filipino Tinola but Samgyetang just has a different kick because of its fall-off-the-bone goodness and generous serving of ginseng. Not everyone may like it but I highly recommend you to try this at least once in your life! Best served while hot.

2. Gyeran Mari

This is Korea’s version of an egg roll! Unlike typical egg rolls, this only has carrots, scallions, and sesame seeds within every egg fold. Busan Kitchen serves this with banana catsup inside the pack. It’s tasty and one serving isn’t enough for me, to be honest!

3. Kimchi

I’m a huge fan of Kimchi – a vegetable dish which has been salted, seasoned, and fermented to acquire its deliciousness. This is a must-have in Korean cuisine! Although I’ve tried a lot of Kimchi here in Manila (mostly from KBBQ places), Busan Kitchen’s version is simply remarkable. You can immediately taste the good quality of napa cabbage that they use and the variation of ingredients in each tub. The veggies have that right crunch to it!

4. Bibimbap

Rice, vegetables, seasoned pork, egg, sesame seeds, and other ingredients mixed together for flavorful bites! Bibim means mixed and bap means mixed rice. It’s served like the one in the photo above, but customers need to mix it well with the seasonings that come with the deliveries before eating. I like eating this with the Gyeran Mari!

5. Jjapchae/Chapchae

A Korean traditional dish that I super duper love! Jjapchae is usually served during holidays, but now, people can enjoy eating these glass noodles mixed with different vegetables any time. Busan Kitchen also offers this at an affordable price.

Aside from these, they also offer SamkyupsalSetmeals, Tteokbokki, Jaeyouk Bokum, Sogukki Miyokuk (Beef Seaweed Soup), Kimchi Fried Rice, and even Kimbap. Price ranges from Php 100 to Php 500, which is already super affordable – considering that they use Korean ingredients!

The Busan Kitchen is open to feed hungry tummies from Tuesday to Sunday. Deliveries are made before lunch and dinner time for those who were able to place an order prior their cut-off time (9AM daily). Customers need to shoulder delivery fee but those living within Greenwoods Executive Village get to enjoy free delivery. Best to place your order in advance to ensure your slot! You can get in touch with them via Facebook or Instagram.

In case you’re worried about ordering food during a pandemic, Busan Kitchen ensures the cleanliness of their kitchen, utensils, and ingredients. In fact, they don’t allow order pickups for people who are not wearing a face mask. I just hope all restaurants do this, too!
